Beloved Pasadena High School instructor, Dr. Ned Sutro, died on St. Patrick’s Day, at the age of 77. He was a teacher on our campus for eighteen years before he left PHS for Arcadia High School. He graduated from Flintridge Prep in 1964 and went on to USC to major in history and received AB and MA degrees. PHS Alum Fr. Brad Karelius remembers that he and Ned were Trojan classmates in history, sharing classes together.
Dr. Sutro was the ASB Advisor and taught Government, History and Psychology at Pasadena High School beginning in the early 70’s before leaving to teach at Arcadia High School. Dr. Sutro definitely left his mark on the lives of his students. The alumni who attended during his time at Pasadena High School always have such positive comments about Dr. Sutro. So many have said that he was absolutely the best teacher they ever had (college or otherwise) and that he made the subject of history come alive.
